The book about CONFORMITY

After 4 weeks of progress, Project 2: Text and Image finally come to the end with the exhibition in Zetland, Huddersfield, UK from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Our book, focus on the conformity happening in nowadays society, trying to point out the causes and consequences of being abandon one own identity in order to fit into society. We limited the topic to  one's appearance, related to make-up, plastic surgery, and clothes. We even included a manga talking about the girl make changes to herself and turns out the changes makes she just look like the others.
We bound the books with japanese binding. It took a lots of work but cost the least. The pages inside are in A3 size and folded into half, so different ideas and effects are applied in this book, make the books into a interesting piece of reading material.

Definition of beauty

While doing the research on the relevant between conformity and fashion, it reminded me a discussion once goes popular on the web.

Contestants of Miss Korea 2013

This is a set of photos of the contestants of Miss Korea year 2013 release by the official site. Obviously, it is not hard to tell why these photos get the most attention on the internet. According to most of the comments on the social networking sites, all these contestants have a extremely similar face, and slightly different hairstyle and dress. This phenomena was criticised as the conventional of plastic surgery happening in Korea. However, when another set of contestants' photos in "less formal make-up" were released, it was claimed that make-up changed their face.

In this case as an example, questions the way of people define the beauty of human appearance. Nowadays, the handling of cosmetics has expanded to a higher level than before. Based on the primary purpose of every day make-up, which is to enhance the complexion, the technique has become more expert until it can change the whole appearance as desire. In addition, due to the influences of internet, everybody can have access to learn and share the information. So, it is completely normal to say that anybody have the potential to draw or change themselves. Since everybody is doing this and become widely acceptable, a guideline to distinguish beautiful face is constructed.

Start of Project 2: Text and Image

The 2nd Project for this term will run in the form of group. So, I'm in a 5 people group, and through discussion, we decide to produce a booklet with the title of conformity.

Just before we make up our mind, we did a little brainstorming in a group. At first, we just brought out any ideas pop up in our head, maybe we could do something funny or maybe about food, animals, daily life etc. As the result, I voted for the idea of 'conformity' suggested by Scott. The reason for choosing the concept of conformity because it reminded me an research about the most popular names for girls in US in the last six decades.

I think this is a quite interesting research and it brings out a series of questions which indicated the phenomena.

In this project, we aim to approach the causes and problems of conformity on four main topic, plastic surgery, fashion, music and technology.
