The Summer Project

      Hello to 2nd year! and this also means the end of summer holiday has come to an end. I've been off from this blog and zero post for all over the summer BUT it doesn't mean I forgot about the summer project.

      To start with, I bought myself a A5 size sketchbook, not too small or too big, too heavy to put in a handbag and bring it around, so I can do some sketching when idea comes or get bored. Turn out the sketchbook has become my journal.

      I travel a lot in the beginning of the summer. Instead of sketching, I also took photos, a preferable way to collect data quick and instant during travel. I got myself a DSLR camera last year Christmas and I've been practicing photography skill while I travel. Photograph can be a really good reference source for practice like digital painting.


       At the start of the summer, before I travel back to Malaysia, I visited to Greece. I've been to Santorini, and I really like the changing of the colour of sea while approaching the shore. So, I'm using watercolour pencil to shade the green and the blue, then I blended the two colours with wet brush.

   

      After few days I'm back to UK from Greece, I then on the the 17++ hours flight back to my home, Malaysia with my friend. Well, I have to admit, I have done the amount of one week's sketches in 17 hours, and HOW AMAZING AM I!

My friend just came up with the idea to mess up with one of the scene in a  very popular Korean drama called "My Love from the Star". The characters in the drawing are from the chatting application-- LINE.                            

This is the original scene from the drama for the above comic. This scene was about the actor, who is an alien, has superpower, save the actress in the car which was going to fall of the cliff.

This is another Hero to the rescue idea. This comic just match the FIFA season.

      I went back to my father's hometown to visit my grandmother. At my grandmother's home, I found a tree whic h has the nest of the weaver bird. Their nest is very different from other birds, instead of build it on the branches, they hang their nest on the tree. Weaver bird knit the nest using straw and form a really beautiful and unique shape.

      Other than this, I also learn painting digitally using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. 

I traced this from the original photo. Tracing is quite a good way to learn the use of the tools, practice on the painting technic and get an idea of how the shadow and highlight place.

For the digital painting, I used the photo above as a reference for the background.

      I have a digital painting done with the combination of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe photoshop. In this painting, I'm more focus on keeping the line work. 

1, I do some sketches on the paper and then strengthen the line using brush pen. After that, I scanned my paperwork into the computer.

2, Once I have my work in the computer, I am able to turn my line work into vector in Illustrator using live trace. Then, I fill the basic colour to my drawing using live paint.

3, Finally, I turned it into Photoshop to add the light and shadow, texture, etc.
